Tóm tắt bài báo (Abstract):
Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs) pose a serious risk to critical infrastructure and enterprise systems, often causing operational disruption, financial losses, and exposure of sensitive information. As attacker tactics and execution environments evolve, provenance graph detectors trained on earlier system behavior can mistake benign operational change for malicious activity, making long-term monitoring unreliable. This paper proposes DriftGuard-APT, a drift-aware framework that enables provenance graph detectors to adapt to changing system behavior without requiring target-domain labels during deployment. The framework learns a model of benign behavior, monitors streaming graph data for distribution shifts, and updates the detector after a drift alarm using score-selected post-drift windows together with replayed source-domain examples. Evaluated on DARPA CADETS E3 and E5 under sudden, incremental, and reoccurring drift, the deployment configuration achieves area under the ROC curve (AUC) scores of 0.852, 0.811, and 0.536, respectively. It also reduces the false-positive rate from 4.5% to 2.7% under sudden drift, from 3.4% to 2.2% under incremental drift, and from 9.8% to 4.9% under reoccurring drift. These results show that drift-triggered adaptation can improve the reliability of provenance-based APT monitoring under monotonic shifts, while the weaker AUC under reoccurring drift highlights the need for more flexible post-drift admission policies.
